SPRINGHILL - After much consideration - and consultation with his doctor - Springhill Mayor Guy Brown says he's ready to retire from politics.
"I've decided I will not run in the election," Brown said this week. "I can't. My health won't allow it."
Brown returned to politics in 2004, turning to municipal matters after a six-year hiatus from provincial politics. At that time he campaigned on a clean bill of health but, as the years went on, he found himself returning to the hospital much more than he expected.
Now, he says, he needs at least three months of rest before he can decide what his next move will be.
"To be fair to my family and the people of Springhill I can't run," Brown said.
If everything goes well in three months time, Brown says he would like to dedicate his time to a number of volunteer organizations. There are lots of things to do, Brown says, if his health will allow it.
Officially out of the running, Brown says he expects Springhill's next council will pick up where he left off.
"I'm sure everything I'm working on the next council will take up. They're all interesting things."
Further, Brown says he hopes the next council will have an operational audit conducted on the Town of Springhill's departments, something Brown wanted when he first went into office but never succeeded.

Lol when I was a kid, I had a bow and arrow. I shot it straight up in the air at my friends house. It drifted next door onto Guy's roof lol. As scared I was I knocked on his door. He promptly got his ladder and got it for me even though I expected to be yelled at. He is a true class act.
