SPRINGHILL - A Springhill man is recovering in hospital after a terrifying and bloody attack at a Springhill bar over the weekend.
Revere Ernest Ruddick, 52, of 213 McGee St., appeared in Truro court on Monday facing charges of attempting to murder Jason Daniel Casey, endangering Casey's life by aggravated assault, assault with broken beer bottles and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Police arrested the alleged attacker at the scene after receiving a 911 call claiming a stabbing had taken place at JB's Steakhouse. One witness, asking to remain unidentified, alleged both had argued earlier in the evening and said Ruddick attacked Casey with two broken beer bottles from behind, slashing the victim's neck on either side. Patrons came to the aid of the victim using paper towels and pressure to stem the flow of blood until paramedics could arrive while bar patrons detained Ruddick until police arrived.
Police Chief Gary Copeland could not comment if Casey remained in hospital or not..
"He was seriously injured," Copleand said. "He was transferred to the Moncton Hospital after being assessed in Springhill and is recovering."
On the Internet an outpouring for Casey's recovery and well-being sprung up on the social website Facebook.com. The group, Wishing Jason Casey A Speedy Recovery, sprung up following the attack and, as of press time, had more than 190 well-wishers.
