Two fires, two charged

SPRINGHILL - Two men were in custody after a series of fires commanded the full attention of the Springhill Fire Department and Springhill Police Service during the waking hours of Fri, Feb. 22.

At 2:00 a.m. Friday morning police and firefighters responded to a house fire at an abandoned home on Junction Rd and by 3:18 a.m. another abandoned home burst into flames.

"While [firefighters] were fighting the first fire they lit the second fire," Springhill Police Chief Gary Copeland said. "The firefighters could see one another."

To male adults were apprehended, interviewed and charged following the second fire, Copeland said. Both will appear in court in the near future.

Meanwhile a third fire smoldered near the Fundy Lanes bowling alley and was not discovered until sunrise. That fire remains under investigation. Copeland could not comment if the third fire was related to the previous fires.
