Oxford - The Oxford detachment of the RCMP attended more than 150 calls from June to September including 51 complaints in the month of August.

Cpl. Joe Ryan, speaking to the committee of the whole of Oxford Council Monday said a number incidents dealing with young offenders occurred throughout the summer including two young offender males and two young offender females committing a break and enter into the Capital Theatre in August.

The four youths will be required to write essays as part of the restorative justice program.

In June, RCMP responded to 34 complaints including a break and enter at Save Easy where the safe was stolen.

"We have a suspect but are waiting for the individual to be released from jail in another province before we can get him to answer to the charges here,'' Ryan said.

In September, RCMP found an abandoned vehicle that was stolen by three individuals that had defrauded a local business by writing a bad cheque before leaving the vehicle on the side of the highway.

"This summer has been better than others. We've been busier in the county than we have been in town and I think that's because a lot of the local clients have moved on to other places," Ryan said.

Wouldn't it be nice if small, basically rural areas similar to Oxford could get the police protection they pay for!!!!!

If the kids were getting proper punishment instead of being made to write essays then maybe they would smarten up.. Especially when a young teen tried to break into my apartment who is from the oxford area.. If they can't do it in their area they move to other places.. They need more punishment!!!

Absolutely right Megan.......these young punks know there will be little in the way of repercussion for their acts of vandalism and lawlessness.
