Thieves have taken upwards of $10,000 worth of tobacco products in the most recent heists. They also took some cash.

Black said theyve gotten in a different way every time.

The first time the thieves entered through a ventilation fan on the side of the building. Black said it appears they cut the metal bars surrounding it, jarred the fan so they could cut an electrical cord behind it, then removed the fan and slid through the hole.

The second time, they cut out a metal grate in the side of the building and entered the store.

The third time they removed a window in the front of the store and unscrewed the bars on the inside of it.

The first time they cleaned me out of tobacco. They left one package. They took it all, Black said. The second time they did the same thing. They took a little less that time because I hadnt replaced it all.

Black was more cautious after that. He had his tobacco hidden when the thieves arrived the third time.

Black isnt the only business owner that has been broken into recently. Thomson Station Shell was broken into, but nothing was taken. Thieves took liquor and money from the Oxford Lions Club while a new microwave oven, money and alcohol was stolen from the Leicester Fire Department.

Theres been thefts all over the county, said Const. Dale Banks of the Oxford RCMP. Pugwash, Parrsboro, Oxford, Wentworthwere pretty sure theyre linked, but everything is still under investigation.

Black said hell have to take action if hes broken into again.

I fixed the places they came in. Theyll never get in those places again, he said. Next time Ill take the building down.
