SYDNEY — The ground search for a missing 50-year-old Leitches Creek man has been called off but Cape Breton Regional Police are still actively looking for him.
Kenneth Douglas MacNeil
Kenneth Douglas MacNeil was last seen Aug. 27 at about 5 p.m. Members of Cape Breton Search and Rescue were called in Friday and for three days they focused their search on a wooded area in the Upper Leitches Creek area, near the man's home.
"We're still actively looking for him, but Cape Breton Search and Rescue is not going to search that area anymore," said Cape Breton Regional Police Staff Sgt. Paul Muise, Monday.
Muise said searchers were unable to find any sign of the man or any indication of what may have happened to him.
"There was nothing new determined from the searches," he said. "So, at the end of the day (Sunday) when they had finished up the area they were searching and after three days of combing that area quite intensely a decision was made (to call off the ground search)."
Muise said police are continuing to encourage the public to contact police with any tips or information about the man.
"Somebody may see him, or know something or have seen something and that's why sometimes the craziest tip that can come in might be the one that puts you in the right direction," he said.
MacNeil is approximately five-foot-five and 120 pounds, slim build with grey and black hair, which is below his ears and above his shoulders.
He was last seen wearing green flower shorts and a grey T-shirt.
