Alberta man to serve four years for fatal stabbing of Cape Breton man

EDMONTON — A 23-year-old Edmonton man has been sentenced to complete a four-year federal prison term after being convicted of manslaughter in the 2012 stabbing death of a Cape Breton man.

Cody Kyle Jensen, 23, was sentenced Monday for the death of 22-year-old Kenzie Beaton, of Mabou, who was stabbed in the early morning hours of Jan. 28, 2012, at the Tonquin Inn in Jasper.

Neither man knew each prior to their brief confrontation during which Beaton suffered a single, fatal stab would that severed his aorta.

The dispute between the two centred on noise coming from Beaton's room which had a adjoining door to Jensen's room.

According to a report in the Edmonton Journal, Beaton's family attended the sentencing hearing and Beaton's mother, Debbie, expressed relief that the case was finally over.
