Popular Pugwash festival scheduled for Aug. 8-10
PUGWASH – Same place, different time.
Pugwash HarbourFest will take place this year on Aug. 8-10, with a variety of activities planned to provide ‘something for everyone.’
Plans for this year’s Pugwash HarbourFest are in place for what promises to be another fun weekend of community activities, albeit a little later in the summer than in previous years. This year’s event will take place on the weekend of Aug. 8-10, creating a little more distance between the community’s other flagship summer festival, the Gathering of the Clans on July 1.
“We moved it so now we’re having it on the second week of August as opposed to the last week of July, because we were finding there was a lot of volunteer fatigue between the two events,” explained HarbourFest co-ordinator Lee Fleming. “Businesses also reported that it would be good to have a nice break, because they were finding July busy and August kind of flat. So now they’re getting a lift.”
Any community would get a lift from the busy schedule of events planned for HarbourFest this year. Back will be the dragon boat challenge, the powerboat poker rally, helicopter rides, musical entertainment and more favourites, while some new twists will be added as well, including a flea market at the high school on Saturday, and a second entertainment stage.
“We have something for everyone this year,” she said. “We’re really looking forward to the weekend, and the weather promises to be good.”
The helicopter rides will be relocated out of the main village area across the water, so the noise does not disrupt other activities, according to Fleming.
The second stage, named the Windsor Salt Shaker, will feature a karaoke contest and dance on Friday night, followed by a salsa performance and dance on Saturday night.
The second stage will also be a gated area, instead of having the whole community gated off like in previous year, which proved problematic.
One planned event that will not be happening this year is the 5K race by Sport Pugwash, which had to be canceled due to low registration.
Meanwhile, plans are already underway for next year’s event, which will mark the 10th anniversary of HarbourFest.
