A dozen local acts will take to the stage on Saturday to perform in a tribute concert to Anne Murray. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Anne Murray Centre.

SPRINGHILL – Celeberations honouring Anne Murray and the 25th anniversary of the the centre bearing her name are coming together.

“Everything is falling into place nicely,” Anne Murray Centre executive director Marcie Meekins said. “The stage is in place and ticket sales are going strong.”

A group of 12 musicians and bands will take to the stage at the Richard Calder Arena at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre on Saturday night to perform their own music, as well as their own takes on the hits that have made Murray a household name around the globe.

The showcase will feature Chris James, Eric Fresia, Barry Patriquin, DC Smith and the Streamliners, Rob Harrison, Castle Reagh, Sweet Addiction, Michelle LeBlanc, the Shakedown Combo, Rocky Ripley, Third Zero and Leah Killen and Gerald ‘Bear’ Davis.

Co-organizer Chris Gooding was over to the centre on Friday and is excited the concert is a day away.

“There's been a lot of excitement and I really can't believe we're just a day away,” Gooding said. “When the sound crew showed up yesterday and started setting up the stage, it became real. We're actually doing it. We're actually going to put this concert on.”

Earlier Saturday, the Anne Murray Centre is hosting a VIP patron luncheon that will raise money to support music programs in Springhill and Cumberland county.

Murray will be at the Anne Murray Centre at 2 p.m. to meet with fans and sign autographs as part of the 25th anniversary party.

Meekins said she’s heard of people coming from as far as Europe and the western United States and Canada to attend the luncheon that has a fee of a $200 donation and the fee event at the centre after.

 Tickets for the concert at $10 and are available at the Anne Murray Centre, or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. Meekins said tickets are going fast.

"There's quite a demand for tickets," she said. "We've had a lot of inquiries here at the centre."
