Showcase Productions Summer Music Theatre Camp is back for 2014, and this year’s director, Gillian Moore, right, will direct kids in two plays, including returning campers Logan Pipes, left, and Lainee LeBlanc-Smith.

AMHERST – Frogs can burrow in the mud but, unfortunately, they can’t fly.

“Just once, I gotta see the sky…Just once I gotta get up high,” said the frog in the play Rumpus in the Rainforest, who tries to get other animals to help him rise above the top of the canopy.

The play is one of two musical productions being staged this summer during the Showcase Productions Summer Music Theatre Camp

“The other play is Bullies Anonymous,” said Gillian Moore, the summer camp director.

“It’s about a weekly meeting of bullies who talk about why they’re bullies”

Moore has been a member of Showcase Productions since Grade 8, and she now studies arts at St. Francis Xavier University. This is her first year directing the camp.

She says acting helped boost her confidence and she hopes kids who join the camp get the same benefit.

Nine-year-old Lainee LeBlanc-Smith played Little Red Riding Hood at last year’s camp, and says it’s a lot of fun.

“It a great place to meet new friends,” she said.

Logan Pipes has attended the camp for several years.

“I love acting and want to be an actor when I grow up,” said Pipes.

The first summer theatre camp is for The Rumpus in the Rainforest.

It’s open to kids 7 to 9-years-old, and runs from July 14 to 25.

The second camp is Bullies Anonymous and is open to kids 10 to 12-years-old, and runs from July 28 to Aug. 8.

The camp starts at 9 a.m. and goes to 1 p.m., at the Christ Church Parish Hall in Amherst.
