SPRINGHILL – CUPE has been granted intervenor status at upcoming UARB meetings on the possible dissolution of the town.
"On behalf of Local 919, Town of Springhill municipal workers, we are very pleased that we will have standing at these meetings,” CUPE national representative Betty Jean Sutherland said in a news release. "The board heard the merits of our application and have agreed that the interests of these employees must be considered in the proceedings. We commend them for making this decision."
The union, which represents town employees, argued for intervenor status during the utility and review board’s preliminary hearing last week in Springhill. At the time, the board reserved its decision on whether to allow the union to participate.
"CUPE has a real and substantial interest in the outcome of these meetings. Local 919 and its members have a rich history in the Town of Springhill. The union was certified in 1965," she added.
