AMHERST – Amherst is continuing its support for the summer swim program offered by the Cumberland YMCA.
Community and Economic Development Director Roger MacIsaac said the cost is $51,508 for this summer and is a $538 increase over 2013, which is a result in increased labour costs.
The program allows Amherst residents to swim at the YMCA each Monday to Friday at no cost.
The program has been offered since 2003 when the town decided to close the Dickey Park pool.
MacIsaac said participation levels remain strong with full participation on some days during the summer.
The instructional program provides an affordable instructional swim program for up to 120 children each year.
