SPRINGHILL – New Brunswick’s very own old-time fiddling masters Ivan and Vivian Hicks will share an evening of music at the CIBC Common Room at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill on Saturday, June 28 at 7 p.m.

With 68 years playing and performing old-time music, Ivan, accompanied by his wife Vivian on the piano, have been sharing music all around North America.

The duo has received a number of awards and honors for their musical achievements and also their contributions to the fiddle music industry and their community. They have taught a number of students fiddle and piano and they are still very actively involved in the industry and performing.

Their newest musical endeavor is hosting house concerts, jam sessions and even motorcoach tours at their home in Riverview, N.B. They have the capacity to cater meals and host up to 60 guests. It is a unique experience where home-style meals and music come together and is combined with the opportunity to view a memorabilia room capturing Ivan and Vivian’s musical success.

Joining Ivan and Vivian in Springhill will be two special guests: Gordon Tucker and Martha Pitre.

Tucker is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Stewiacke. He has been part of the Nova Scotia music scene for many years. He has been playing solo and with several groups featuring folk, blues, rock & roll, traditional fiddle music and Maritime songs.

He has performed with such arts as Fiddles & Feet, the Berry Hill Band, Garrett Mason, Doris Mason and John Campbelljohn.

Pitre is a 14-year-old award winning fiddler from Shediac, N.B. She has been performing in competitions and concerts since a young age. She is also an active member with the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers led by Ivan Hicks.

Tickets for the show are $15 each and may be purchased at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre office in Springhill.
