AMHERST – Showcase Productions celebrated student achievement on Sunday presenting bursaries and scholarships to graduating students at Amherst Regional High School.
The not-for-profit society presented its annual scholarship to Justin Trueman, who is heading off to Mount Allison University to study music in September.
Jacob Sicheri, Rachel Smith and Drew Polegato each received bursaries.
“The bursaries are presented to students as a way of saying thanks for their work with Showcase Productions over the years,” Michelle Hicks of Showcase Productions said. “The scholarship is open to anyone who is going into university to study any aspect of the performing arts.”
Sicheri, who is going to Dalhousie University, appeared in the Fantastiks last year and has been active for several years in Showcase Productions. Both Smith and Polegato have more than 10 years experience in Showcase including appearances in Spamalot, Grease, Altar Boys and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Hicks said the money for the scholarships is raised from its productions and the yearly bus tours to Broadway in New York City.
Showcase Productions will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2015. Since its inception it has presented more than $123,000 in bursaries, scholarships and sponsorships.
