Special Father’s Day concert at community centre

Valdy is performing with special guest Doris Mason in a special Father’s Day concert at the Tidnish Community Centre on Sunday.

TIDNISH – Valdy with special guest Doris Mason will be performing at the Tidnish Community Centre on Sunday.

Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for over 40 years. A man with a thousand friends, he's a singer, guitarist and songwriter who catches the small but telling moments that make up life.

Remembered for Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968, Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit.

Today, he is based on Salt Spring Island, B.C. where he lives with his wife Kathleen.

In 2012, Valdy was honoured to become a Member of the Order of Canada (Arts/Music) for his achievements as a folk musician and for his support of charitable causes.

Mason grew up in New Glasgow with a large musical family; her father played the fiddle and she and her sisters would take turns accompanying him on the piano.

She moved to Halifax after she finished school where she played part-time in a band while working. Shortly thereafter, music became something she did full-time and her repertoire included blues, jazz, and boogie woogie.

Mason has been arranging music for over 15 years and has had her compositions performed by Symphony Nova Scotia.
