150 in the Class of 2014 at local campus

SPRINGHILL – Nova Scotia Community Cumberland Campus will celebrate its class of 2014 during a convocation ceremony at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.

This year, 150 Cumberland graduates will receive their diplomas or certificates. The convocation ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate student success and acknowledge those who support graduates throughout their academic journeys.

It also recognizes the commitment of the campus’ faculty and staff to provide a high-quality learning environment for every student.

Jordanna Beal, an early childhood education graduate, is this year’s Cumberland Campus valedictorian. She was attracted to NSCC by the opportunity to study at a campus close to home in a field in which she could build a career.

She says her experience has provided her with more than she could imagine.

“NSCC prepared me for the future. I have become a mature, young professional ready for the workplace and other life experiences,” she said in a news release from the college.

Beal is looking forward to continuing her learning at Mount Saint Vincent University where she plans to take a bachelor of arts and then a cachelor of education to become a teacher.

NSCC president Don Bureaux and Cumberland campus principal Don McCormack will also be speaking at convocation.
