SYDNEY — Two women required treatment in hospital after they both received stab wounds during an altercation at an apartment complex on Charlotte Street, Saturday.
Both women have since been released from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, but remain in police custody.
The Cape Breton Regional Police say officers were called to the apartment complex at 9 p.m.
Regional police Staff Sgt. Stephen MacKinnon said a knife was used in the physical altercation between the women — a Glace Bay resident in her early 30s and a Sydney resident in her early 20s.
Officers from the forensic identification section and the major crime unit were called to the scene.
MacKinnon couldn’t say if charges are pending against one or both women.
“It’s not a clear picture just yet on charges,” he said, Sunday afternoon.
“(Investigators) are still doing their statements and interviewing witnesses to try to get a full idea of what happened there, so we’re not sure on charges yet.”
The regional police is encouraging anyone who may have information in this case to contact police at 563-5151 or through Crime Stoppers at 562-TIPS, 562-8477 or online at www.capebretoncrimestoppers.ca.
