Matthew Pryde is currently working in Truro

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Another vacant management position at town hall has now been filled.

Sackville town council approved the hiring last week of Matthew Pryde as the new manager of recreation programs and events – one of the new positions created following the resignation this winter of longtime director of community development, recreation programs and tourism Rebekah Cant.

Pryde, currently working in Truro, N.S. as a physical activity and recreation specialist at Health Canada, is well qualified for the tasks ahead, said Jamie Burke, Sackville’s senior manager of corporate projects.

Pryde, who will take on his new position in Sackville on June 9, holds dual bachelor degrees from Dalhousie University, one in parks, recreation and leisure studies and the other in business administration and management. He also recently received his masters in adult education from St. Francis Xavier University.

“We’re really happy he’s able to join us,” said Burke, who said Pryde was selected from among more than 75 well-qualified applicants from all over the country.

Pryde will be responsible for the coordination of the town’s recreation programs and organization of special events, such as the annual Fall Fair and Winterfest activities, among others.

Mayor Bob Berry said with this latest hiring, the town now has “a full complement of staff at the management level,” after a number of months of being in limbo.

He thanked the current staff for filling the positions and taking on tasks above their own duties while the hiring process was taking place, for both the manager of recreation programs and events position as well as the senior manager of corporate projects, who was just hired this spring as well.

“I’m so glad to see that happen and I hope we can move ahead,” said Berry.
