AMHERST – Two men were charged with impaired driving during two separate traffic stops on Sunday.

A 52-year-old man was charged with impaired driving after a stop on Willow Street and will appear in provincial court on June 23 for plea, while a 40-year-old man was charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop on Church Street.

The officer could smell alcohol on the breath of the driver, who was then asked to provide a breath sample with the result being a fail on an approved screening device.

He will appear in court on June 16 for plea.

Officers responded to 106 complains between Monday, April 28, and Sunday, May 4.

On Saturday, a 20-year-old man was charged with impaired driving by drug following a traffic stop on Church Street.

He will appear for plea on Aug. 25.

Tires were also reported to be slashed on a vehicle that was parked at a Fullerton Street residence.

Police are investigating.

In other incidents:

Monday:

A 33-year-old male has been charged with assault against his ex-wife following an incident at a residence on Willow Street. 

The male will appear in Amherst provincial court on May 26 for plea.

Police responded to a report that a motor vehicle had struck a building at a business on Tantramar Crescent. 

The vehicle had struck a post that supported a building overhang. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

Tuesday:

Police officers responded to a hit and run in the parking lot of the Atlantic Superstore.  Minor damage was reported on the driver’s side door.

Police are continuing with their investigation.

Amherst Police received reports of a motor vehicle that had driven over the curb on Church Street and that the female driver had exited the vehicle and was yelling at pedestrians walking nearby. 

Patrols were made, but the vehicle and the female had left the scene prior to police arrival.

Wednesday:

A 43-year-old male was arrested after he left provincial court because he was observed by officers to be breaching conditions of his undertaking. 

The male was observed by officers to be under the consumption of alcohol. He will appear for plea on June 18.

Police responded to a South Albion gas station to keep the peace because of a disagreement between two parties involving a Kijiji vehicle sale. 

No charges were laid in the incident.

Thursday:

A 42-year-old male has been charged with driving while suspended after he was stopped by police for a traffic violation on Croft Street.

Officers received reports of a theft of an iPad from a Russell Street residence.  

Police are continuing with their investigation.
