AMHERST – Whether it was making a purchase or just browsing, the Cumberland County Home and Leisure Show had something for everyone over the weekend at Amherst Stadium.

“I’m going to put a new roof on my home and when I do that I want to put insulation in my attic, so I was getting some ideas on what to use for insulation,” said Richard Porter, who attended the home show with his wife Shirley Ann.

Shirley Ann wasn’t buying, but she was browsing.

“I see all kinds of friends I haven’t seen for a while, so it’s nice to get out,” said the Hastings resident. “And there’s a good variety of things to look at, and the people in the booths are quite knowledgeable.”

Doug Bacon is a farmer and he knew exactly what he was looking for. He went straight to the Athol Forestry Cooperative booth and bought some clothing.

“I work outside a lot and they have a lot of products I like to use,” said Bacon.

Kevin Anderson, owner/operator of Woodpecker Tree Care, said he’s pleased with the turnout at the show.

“It’s the first time we’ve done the home show and it’s a good opportunity to network,” said Anderson. “We have gotten some direct work out of it but it’s mostly about making connections.”

Anderson says his booth was quite busy, particularly on Saturday, but Sunday’s warmer weather meant less people came to the home show.

“If it rained all weekend it would have been better but I’m really happy with the turnout.”

Asked if he will be back next year, Anderson said, “Yes, I think I’ll do it again.”

This was the third year at the home show for Matt Colson, owner/operator of Colson Overhead Doors.

“We get a lot of direct traffic, so the home show is definitely good for us,” said Colson. “Most the people I talk to are people who are building and need doors or have doors and need them serviced.”

Colson had 200 information sheets at his booth when the home show opened on Friday and more than three quarters were gone by the time the show closed on Sunday.

He says the home show has always been good for business.

“We do more quotes every year than the year before, so I’ll definitely be back next year,” said Colson.
