Hands clap and hands fly in the air as the Special Olympics Amherst soccer team learns they will be travelling to Vancouver to participate in the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. The team first learned of the trip at the Amherst Curling Club in Nov. 2013.
AMHERST – More than 20 delectable cakes will be up for bids during the 2nd annual Cake Auction beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bridge Workshop in Amherst.
This year’s auction will support the Special Olympics Amherst Soccer Team as they prepare to travel to the 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games.
The games run from July 8 to 12 in Vancouver.
The auctioneers are Roger Bacon and Steve LeBlanc.
They ask people to come early to register their auction paddle and to view the beautiful confections.
Scotiabank, Amherst Centre Branch, as part of the Team Scotia Community Involvement Program, will be participating with the hope of matching a portion of the funds.
Admission is free.
Viewing starts at 1 p.m. and the auction begins at 1:30 p.m.
