AMHERST – After its near death experience, the Amherst Home & Leisure Show is continuing to gain momentum.
When Heather Gunning took over the show two years ago she was starting from scratch. The show hadn’t been held the previous year and there were some who questioned about whether she’d be successful in bringing the event back from the dead.
“It’s been great. We’re slowly getting bigger and better every year,” Gunning said. “We’re sold out this year and we even have a waiting list of companies wanting to participate. It shows that there is a market here for this type of event, it just needed some tweaking.”
The 2014 edition of the show kicks off Friday at the Amherst Stadium and runs through Sunday with vendors, both big and small, selling home and leisure products.
“We have a great mixture of products this year. It has really stepped up a notch,” she said. “We have everything from roofing, to well drilling, to builders and contractors and modular homes and cottages.”
She said she works on the show year round and said her sponsors and the vendors help get the word out. She also pointed out that people want to support a local home show because without it they would have to go to Moncton.
Gunning said the show will showcase both local and regional companies with products to support both the do it yourself enthusiast and those looking to contact contractors about their home project.
“A lot of people come to this with a home renovation project in mind and it really helps them to get some ideas and talk to the pros that will be here,” she said.
A highlight of the show will be a spring a summer fashion show, hosted by Nygard and Jayset, on Friday evening while there will be numerous door prizes including a spray-on bed line from Rhino Linings, an 8x8 mini barn from modushed.ca. a romantic night escape at the Wandlyn and a kitchen makeover by Harrison’s Home Hardware.
Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
