HALIFAX — The nephew of Nova Scotia’s premier is facing child pornography charges.

Halifax Regional Police say 20-year-old Brandon William McNeil is scheduled to appear in court on April 20 to face charges of luring a child, making sexually explicit material available to a child and making child pornography.

A spokeswoman for Premier Stephen McNeil confirmed that McNeil is the premier’s nephew.

Police say they arrested Brandon William McNeil on Saturday at a home in the suburb of Dartmouth.

They allege a man was sharing sexually explicit images online with a 13-year-old boy.

Police also say this was not a random incident and the accused and the alleged victim are known to each other.

Police say Brandon William McNeil was released from custody on conditions he not communicate with children under the age of 16, possess a device that is able to access the Internet or be within 50 metres of a place frequented by children.
