Amherst Police responded to 77 incidents last week.

AMHERST – A 43-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property following an attempted shoplifting incident at Walmart last Friday.

Employees were able to get a description of the suspects’ vehicle and it was located at the Atlantic Superstore.

A large quantity of electronics was found in the vehicle.

One other suspect is still be sought.

The two arrested individuals were due in court on March 24 for a bail hearing.

Amherst Police responded to 77 complaints last week.

Also on Friday, officers were called to investigate a shoplifting incident at Dayle’s Department Store.

Employees pursued the female suspect to her home on Havelock Street and a 19-year-old was arrested. The matter is still under investigation.

Other incidents included:

Monday:

Two males, ages 25 and 34, are both under investigation after they failed to report to the Amherst Police Department as per the conditions on their recognizances.

Charges of breach are likely to be laid.

Police received a report of uttering threats and that youths were going to fight near a school. 

Police patrolled the area and no issues developed during the course of the day.

Tuesday:

A 24-year-old male was arrested for uttering threats and mischief under $5,000 following an incident at a residence on Liberty Lane. 

The male had been in an argument with a 19-year-old female when he threatened her and damaged the door casings to the front door. 

He will expected to enter a plea on March 24.

Wednesday:

Officers attended to a motor vehicle collision on West Pleasant Street. 

A vehicle was backing out of a restaurant parking lot when it struck a vehicle parked on the opposite side of the road. 

No charges are expected.

Thursday:

Police received reports of a suspected impaired driver entering town limits. 

The suspect vehicle was found by officers on South Albion Street and officers could detect alcohol on the driver’s breath. 

The 63-year-old driver was administered an approved screening device test and the result  was a seven-day driving suspension.

Officers attended to a disturbance at an apartment on Dickey Street. 

No charges were laid, but a 38-year-old female left the residence to prevent any further breaches of the peace.

A 49-year-old male was found intoxicated and passed out in a snowbank on East Victoria Street. 

EHS was called to the scene and transported the male to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. 

No charges were laid in the incident.

Police received a report of an assault by a female against a male who was standing in front of the Amherst Provincial Court on Church Street. 

It was alleged that the female had struck the male in the face with her hands.  The 27-year-old female is facing a charge of assault and will appear in provincial court on March 31 for plea.

A two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Church and Queen streets.

A vehicle travelling on Queen Street had stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection at Church Street where it was struck. 

The second vehicle involved was then forced into a power pole. 

A female passenger was transported to the Cumberland Region Health Centre with minor injuries. 

A 19-year-old male has been issued several summary offence tickets for moving and non-moving violations stemming from the incident.

Saturday:

Police received a report of uttering threats against a male on Crescent Avenue. 

The male received the threats from an unidentified male through his intercom.  Police are investigating.

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Robert Angus Drive and South Albion Street. 

No injuries were reported and a 47-year-old male was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to stop at a red light.

Police attended a domestic assault at a Kent Drive residence. 

A 39-year-old male was arrested for assault and mischief. 

He will appear in provincial court on March 31 for plea.

Sunday:

Amherst Police attempted to do a compliance check on a 34-year-old female at a residence on Willow Street. 

The female was not present contrary to her conditions on her probation order. 

Charges of breach are likely to be laid.
