AMHERST – Two women, both 18-years-old, were arrested for shoplifting at Foodland on Saturday.

They have been charged with theft, possession of stolen property and various breach charges.

The pair will return to court for election and plea on March 24.

The incident was one of 81 complaints Amherst Police responded to during the week.

Also on Saturday, officers received a report of an assault at a downtown area lounge. Officers questioned several people at the scene and determined it to be a verbal argument only and no charges have been laid.

On Sunday, officers were called to a fight between a man and a woman at a restaurant on Prince Arthur Street. Both parties had left the premises by the time police arrived and officers have been unable to determine exactly what took place. No charges are expected at this time.

On Friday, there was a two-vehicle collision on Robert Angus Drive. One of the vehicles, travelling westbound on the street, lost control due to slushy road conditions and collided with an eastbound vehicle.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and had to be towed.

Robert Angus Drive was closed for an hour and both drivers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Monday:

Police received a call that a 68-year-old female had been knocked down and her purse was stolen while she was walking on Summer Street. 

The victim injured her wrist in the incident and was transported to the Cumberland Health Care Centre. 

The suspect involved has been described as a white male late teens/early 20s, wearing a ski style jacket with a hood. The jacket was described as blue with two wide white stripes.  The suspect was also wearing jeans and wearing dark sunglasses and was described as being tall and thin. 

The stolen purse was later recovered behind the Amherst museum by officers. Police are continuing with their investigation.

A child’s scooter was stolen from the lobby of the theatre on Church Street.  The scooter was described as having one gold and silver wheel, a purple deck and green handlebars.

Tuesday

A vehicle parked in the driveway of a Costin Drive residence was gone through. A phone charger was taken during the incident.

Police received a call of an internal theft involving an employee at an Amherst hotel.  Police are investigating.

Officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Atlantic Superstore.

The female involved in the incident has been identified and the investigation into the matter is continuing.

Wednesday

Police received a complaint of uttering threats towards a female residing on Winston Avenue. 

The investigation is continuing in the matter.

Police assisted with Family and Children Services with a child apprehension on Brownell Avenue.

Thursday

Officers attended a call of a 49-year-old male passed out in a snowbank on Prince Arthur Street. 

The male was transported back to his residence and no charges are expected to be laid in the incident.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with assault and uttering threats against a 28-year-old female following an incident at a residence on Haliburton Street.  

The accused will appear at Amherst Provincial Court on March 24 for plea.
