Springhill man pleads guilty to accessing child porn

Vernon Rae Sullivan, 61, of Springhill, will be sentenced May 20, 2014, after pleading guilty to accessing child pornography.

The incident occurred between March 2 and June 4, 2013.

Sullivan was among 22 arrested as part of an operation targeting people who collect, possess and distribute child exploitation material online, and was one of eight Nova Scotians arrested as part of Operation Snapshot II

The operation included involvement from federal, provincial and municipal police agencies including RCMP and Springhill Police Services.

Members of the department and the Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit assisted members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit by executing a search warrant at Sullivan’s residence on June 13, 2013.

The operation resulted in 64 charges against suspects in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Russell sentenced for 2001 incidents

Troy James Russell, 46, of Sheet Harbour, received a suspended sentence plus 15 months probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $822, after pleading guilty to five counts of theft, breaching an undertaking to keep the peace and be of good behavior.

Those incidents stem back to Sept. 13 and Sept. 14, of 2001, in Amherst.
