Boy, 16, charged with arson, break and enter after fire in Dartmouth home

DARTMOUTH - A 16-year-old boy is due in court Thursday charged with arson and break and enter after a fire broke out inside a Dartmouth home on Wednesday evening.

Police say around 5 p.m. the accused tried to get into a house in the 300 block of Portland Street through a window.

Someone living inside confronted the suspect and he fled on foot. Police say he was arrested a short distance away.

During the arrest, police say officers saw smoke coming from the home and firefighters were called.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the fire. No one was injured as everyone in the three-storey house was able to get out safely.

The exact cause of the blaze hasn’t been determined.
