SPRINGHILL – Ten years is a long prescription to fill, but for Springhill Community Guardian Pharmacy’s owners it seems like it started just yesterday.

Springhill Community Guardian Pharmacy owners and pharmacists Murray Fraser and Ian Taylor are rolling out a week of specials, prizes and clinics to thank customers for ten years of support, beginning Monday, March 3.

“It’s hard to believe,” owner and pharmacist Murray Fraser said. “We have six of the original staff still; some have had babies, some have gone to college. It’s been very rewarding.”

Fraser and fellow business partner and pharmacist Ian Taylor opened their 64 Main Street business with a determination to be part of the community. The building itself, for years known for being the IGA grocery store, was in a vacant state but through time and investment they brought the building back to its former glory. It was part of a theme that developed as the two began the business-ownership process, and having a business they could be proud of in their hometown was very important.

“Small towns. That’s the stuff with real rewards,” Taylor said. “Why Springhill? We live here. Murray was born here and I’ve been here since 1991. We had a chance to buy out a business in River Hebert but we didn’t see ourselves there. We wanted to work in our community. Get to know people.”

“It’s one thing to see a chart and fill out a prescription,” Fraser said. “It’s another thing to know your people, to see how they’re doing. It means more.”

That they now have ten years under the belt, Fraser and Taylor say the credit belongs to their staff.

“The staff really make it. They’re the frontline and they really make the difference,’ Taylor said.

That’s not to exclude the customers and to show their appreciation the Springhill Pharmacy will be offering specials all week, beginning Monday, March 3, as the pharmacy rolls out its new product line from Atoma, which will replace Rexall. An anniversary cake cutting will take place Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m. Door crasher specials, giveaways and clinics will also be taking place throughout the week.
