Swift Current enters 2014 Kraft Hockeyville competition
Swift Current is currently competing against hockey fanatical communities from coast to coast who are hoping to earn a chance to be named Hockeyville.
Swift Current has entered the Kraft Hockeyville 2014 competition which will give passionate hockey fans from the community a chance to show they deserve the title of Hockeyville and bragging rights as the best hockey community in Canada.
Swift Current submitted an essay entitled "100 Years of Hockey...A Story of Love, Loss and Lasting Legacy" which is hoped to push the community into the finalist category. In order to place among the Hockeyville finalists the entry essay is currently being judged on originality, community spirit and passion for hockey. The top 16 communities will be announced on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada on March 8.
The top eight entries in Western Canada are guaranteed to receive $25,000 in arena upgrades, while the grand prize winner from the final round of 16 communities will not only win $100,000 in arena upgrades they will host a 2014-2015 NHL pre-season game and a visit from CBC.
Swift Current is trying to become the first Saskatchewan community to win the national contest and organizers are calling on supporters to register on the Kraft Hockeyville website. In order to help support the bid people are asked to visit http://krafthockeyville.cbc.ca/ and search for Swift Current under the Find Your Community section. When the Credit Union iPlex appears on the left of the webpage, individuals are asked to click Join and register an account by creating a Display Name, entering your Email Address and creating a Password.
