Schools closed for second consecutive day

More than 40 cm of snow has fallen in the Amherst area over the last 24 hours.

AMHERST – It was like déjà vu for Cumberland County residents early Thursday.

For the second time in less than 24 hours a winter storm rolled through the area overnight cancelling school and slowing traffic.

Approximately 20 cm of snow fell after midnight undoing the cleanup that followed a storm a night earlier that also dumped about 20 cm. More weather is on the way for Friday, but this time it’s forecast to be of the wet variety.

“A person could never get used to this,” said one person as he shoveled snow from outside his Amherst home. “Seems like we’ve been doing this way too much lately.”

All schools in the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board were closed for a second consecutive day as were both campuses of the Nova Scotia Community College.

The Tantramar Seniors College classes in Amherst were cancelled for Thursday, the Cumberland County Transportation Society did not run, Bright Beginnings Child Care Centre remained closed and many other programs either stayed closed for the day or delayed their opening.
