Schools closed in Cumberland County

Heavy snow has resulted in the closure of schools across the region on Wednesday.

AMHERST – Students across Cumberland County are enjoying another snow day after heavy snow overnight caused the closure of schools in the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board.

Snow began after midnight and fell heavily overnight with close to 10 cm on the ground early in the morning and another five to 10 expected to fall during the day Wednesday.

Because of the weather, Environment Canada has put a Snowfall Advisory in place for Cumberland County.

Along with schools, the Nova Scotia Community College’s Amherst and Springhill campuses are closed, while Cumberland municipal council’s February session has been moved from today to Thursday.

The Bridge Adult Service Centre in Amherst and GOVRC in Springhill are also closed today.

The senior’s luncheon at the Wesleyan Church has been moved to next Wednesday, all branches of the Cumberland Public Library are closed with a number of businesses and government offices announcing they are staying closed until noon.

More snow is forecast for overnight Wednesday as another system brushes the area. This time, only five cm is expected to fall before a warm up later this week and rain.
