Environment Canada says a low pressure system will rapidly intensify as it tracks towards Nova Scotia Saturday night.
The national weather forecaster says up to 45 centimetres of snow could fall in parts of New Brunswick overnight Saturday, while as much as 20 centimetres is expected in Prince Edward Island.
Wind, rain and freezing rain warnings have been issued for Nova Scotia.
The storm will then move towards Newfoundland on Sunday, with heavy snow and high winds expected across the island.
The storm comes days after a fierce mix of snow, rain and wind closed schools and left thousands of customers without power in parts of Atlantic Canada.
