AMHERST – Following is the Amherst Police report for the weekend beginning Friday, Feb. 7:

Friday night

Police responded to an alarm at a business on Park Street.  Officers deemed that that alarm was false.

Officers were called to remove a 42 year old male from a lobby of a bank on Victoria Street. The male was moved along by police without issue.

An Amherst gas station reported that a female refused to pay a $15 gas bill. Police are continuing with their investigation.

 

Saturday

Police received a report of an alarm at a business on Industrial Park Drive. The alarm was false.

APD members responded to a 911 misdial at an apartment on Acadia Street. The female living there was unsure how the number was dialled.

Police were called to the Amherst Centre Mall after receiving reports that a male was attempting to get into the mall late at night.  The male was discovered inside a lobby of a nearby bank. The male, who has had several Protection of Property Act notices issued against him barring his entrance to several Amherst businesses, was moved along by police.

A 38 year-old male was arrested for breaching his undertaking after police conducted a traffic stop on Station Street. The male passenger was discovered to be breaching his curfew conditions. The male will appear on March 6th at Amherst Provincial Court.

APD attended a complaint of a fight at a local downtown area bar. An ambulance was called after one of the males was knocked unconscious from the encounter. Investigation revealed that the injured male had provoked the incident and that a male who had hit him was only defending himself. The 42 year-old male was arrested for public intoxication and breach of his recognizance. He will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on February 24th.

 

Sunday

Police officers attended to an Amherst grocery store after it was reported that a male had attempted to shoplift a cart full of groceries. The male, described as over six feet tall, dark complexion, short black hair and wearing black rimmed glasses, had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

A 42 year-old male is facing charges of disturbing the peace, assault on a police officer and failing to comply with his undertaking following an incident at a hotel in town. The male had been loitering in the lobby and acting suspicious. Police attended and asked the male to leave. The male refused and was eventually arrested for causing a disturbance. While being arrested, the male pushed one of the arresting officers.  he male was remanded into custody until his plea on March 12th.

In total, Amherst Police received 22 calls for assistance over the weekend.
