AMHERST – A 30-year-old Amherst man is facing several charges, including impaired driving and driving while prohibited, following a traffic stop on Prince Arthur Street on Saturday.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on March 10 to answer to the charges.

The Amherst Police Department responded to 32 complaints over the weekend.

On Friday evening, police received a complaint of fraud on Prince Arthur Street and complaints regarding a suspicious person in the South Albion Street area.

In another incident, a 58-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication. He was held in custody overnight and released when sober.

On Saturday, police received a complaint of trespassing at a South Albion Street business, a medical assistance call on Prince Arthur Street and a medical alarm on Marshview Drive.

On Saturday night, police were called to a motor vehicle crash with no injuries on South Albion Street and a request for assistance on Hill Street. There was also an alarm at a local business.

A 49-year-old Amherst man was arrested for public intoxication after a complaint on East Victoria Street. He was held in custody until sober and then released.

Police were called to a local liquor establishment on a complaint under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. A 20-year-old male was arrested and a small quantity of marijuana seized.

A seven-day licence suspension was issued to a 36-year-old woman following a vehicle stop on Victoria Street. She registered a warning on a roadside screening device.

On Sunday, police responded to an assault complaint on Brownell Avenue, a request for a wellbeing check on Cedar Drive, a complaint of damage a South Albion Street car dealership, an assault on Academy Street and a complaint of an intoxicated mal on Eddy Street.

A complaint of uttering threats was received on South Albion Street.

On Sunday night, police responded to an intoxicated man on Havelock Street. EHS attended the scene and took the man to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for treatment.

Other complaints included harassment via text messages and trespassing on Prince Arthur Street.
