Halifax police officer faces drunk driving charges after spot check

COLE HARBOUR — A 48-year-old Halifax police officer faces impaired driving charges after a late-night spot check.

Investigators say the RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by the off-duty Halifax officer at 2:38 a.m. on Monday.

Police have charged Charles Bruce with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit.

Bruce, who has been with the police department for 20 years, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on March 26.

He has been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the charges.
