AMHERST – Cumberland County is currently being lashed by heavy snow and high winds.

All schools in Cumberland County, the NSCC campuses in both Springhill and Amherst, and many businesses are closed for the day.

The blizzard warning was still in effect at 4:30 p.m. for Amherst and the rest of the county and is expected to continue into the evening.

Environment Canada says the blowing snow will change to flurries Wednesday evening, with accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres.

Winds will gust up to 70 km/h tonight.

Temperatures will go down to -16 C tonight as well.

Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud on Thursday with a high of -10 C.

They say winds will gust up to 40 km/h on Thursday.
