A longtime supporter of the Roman Catholic Church in Amherst has died.
A longtime supporter of the Roman Catholic Church in Amherst has died. Sandra LaPierre died Tuesday after a lengthy battle with cancer.
AMHERST – A longtime supporter of the Roman Catholic Church and the Girl Guides movement in Amherst has died.
Sandra LaPierre died on Tuesday.
LaPierre was active on the original committee that eventually brought the St. Charles and Nativity of Our Lady parishes together under Holy Family Parish. She was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the stewardship committee.
She also had 40 years experience with the Catholic Women’s League.
LaPierre was very active with the Girl Guides, serving 31 years as a Guider and a trainer of other Guiders. She was presented with an honorary life membership.
She worked 48 years at Tantramar Chevrolet.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Parish with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Amherst chapter of the Relay for Life, the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care.
