Amherst man arrested for allegedly trafficking narcotics
AMHERST – Members of the Cumberland Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit conducted a drug investigation relating to the trafficking of prescription narcotics under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
As the result of the investigation a 51-year-old man was arrested in Amherst on Wednesday and a large quantity of prescription narcotic pills were seized.
The Amherst man faces several charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including three counts of trafficking oxycodone, possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking as well as two counts of illegal possession of narcotics, namely oxycontin and hydromorphone.
The accused is scheduled to return to Provincial Court Feb. 24, to enter a plea to the charges.
A 30-year-old Springhill man was also arrested during the investigation, and will also be appearing in Provincial Court on Feb. 14, to enter a plea to the charge of possession of oxycodone.
