Rev. Douglas Campbell and his wife, Marguerite, killed in Dec. 23 crash

SACKVILLE, N.B. The RCMP is investigating a collision that claimed the lives of two Sackville residents on Highway 2, near Salisbury, N.B., on Dec. 23.

The collision, involving a passenger car and a transport truck, happened just after 5 p.m. The two occupants of the passenger vehicle, 81-year-old Rev. Douglas Campbell and his wife  Marguerite (Fletcher), 62, from Sackville, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the transport truck was treated and released.

While the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, it appears at this time to be a result of the road and weather conditions. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the collision. The highway was closed for approximately three hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist conducted its investigation and other first responders were on the scene.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home in Sackville. Visiting hours will take place on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at Main Street Baptist Church in Sackville on Friday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m.
