After more than 40 centimetres of snow from two storms just days apart, winter will rear its ugly head again tonight.
Cumberland County is under a freezing rain warning tonight, while another storm gathering steam from Texas to Ontario is expected to bring several hours of freezing rain and ice pellets overnight Saturday.
“It’s going to a very icy couple of days and we’re advising the public to keep checking for updates because warnings could be expanded or changed,” meteorologist Paula Sutherland of Environment Canada said Friday.
Sutherland said snow is expected to begin this evening and change to freezing rain and/or ice pellets overnight.
On Saturday night, periods of rain are expected to change over to freezing rain and ice pellets overnight and continue for several hours.
Sutherland said the trough of low pressure is expected to remain stationary over the Maritimes throughout the weekend. It will be early Monday before the system moves out of the area.
Flurries are forecast for Monday with cloudy skies on Christmas Eve. Wednesday, Christmas Day, will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of -6 C.
