Team won 1944 Nova Scotia women's hockey title

Constance 'Connie' White, died on Dec. 16. She was the last member of the wartime Hurricanes' hockey team

AMHERST – The last surviving member of the 1944 Canada Car Hurricanes has died.

Constance ‘Connie’ White passed away at Gables Lodge on Dec. 16. She was 88.

White was captain of the Canada Car Hurricanes team that won the Nova Scotia Women’s Hockey Championships with a pair of wins over the Halifax Navy Wrens.

The team received a hero’s welcome upon their return to Amherst.

She was married to hockey great Shermie White, who starred with the Amherst Senior Ramblers in the 1950 and played professional hockey.

She is survived by sons Terry (Linda) and Scott (Wendy) and daughter Sharman Smith (Roy).
