AMHERST – Amherst Police will join with other law enforcement agencies, fire and EHS in kicking off its annual Operation Christmas campaign here Friday.
The campaign hopes to remind people of the variety of choices they have after consuming alcohol such as calling a sober driver, calling a taxi or staying the night.
Driving under the influence has become one of the leading causes of preventable death and serious injury on Nova Scotia roads.
In 2011, 19 Nova Scotians died in alcohol-related crashes.
The Amherst department will be conducting checkpoints throughout the holiday period and is urging motorists to call 911 if they suspect an impaired driver.
