FIVE ISLANDS – According to a post on the Not Since Moses page on Facebook, the popular run is being cancelled for this year.

Sixteen hundred runners participated in this year's Not Since Moses race, held in Sandy Point on Aug. 11.

“The sad decision has been made,” reads the post that was made on Dec. 7. “We have examined every possibility and there are simply no weekends with safe tides next summer.”

The post said the event, which saw more than 1,600 participants last year running on the floor of the Bay of Fundy, needs a low tide of less than 0.9 metres.

“Mother Nature and the Bay of Fundy laughed at us,” the post continued.

“Safety needs to be our first concern.”

The Not Since Moses race has been on the go since 2007 and features a five or 10-kilometre journey, as well as a children’s event.

Dick Lemon conceived the event while running in Five Islands at low tide in the summer of 2006. Lemon continued to organize the event, however announced earlier this year that the event held in August would be his last.

While the event is cancelled for 2014, a date has already been set for 2015. The five and 10-kilometre events will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 2, with the children’s event beginning at 9:30.
