At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, Yarmouth Town RCMP conducted a well-being check at a residence on Grove Road. Upon entering the home, the RCMP found the deceased body of Stanley Ernest Adams from Yarmouth.

The Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit is assisting with the investigation

Timothy Stanley Adams, 43, has been arrested without incident and has been charged with the following offences: one count of neglecting to perform duties with reference to burial and one count of offering indignities to human remains.

He appeared in provincial court in Yarmouth on Wednesday afternoon.

The RCMP are continuing their investigation and are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the residence or had contact with the deceased.

The RCMP haven’t said how the long the man was deceased or how he died.

The Vanguard had been told by a neighbour that the man’s nephew had been led away from the scene in handcuffs on Tuesday.

The same neighbour told the Yarmouth Vanguard that it appeared to people living in the area of the residence that the man may have been deceased for some time. She said the elderly man was a hoarder of cats, and months back cats started showing up at her house.

She said the RCMP had been showing up at the residence since late last week. They would knock on the door and then leave, then return the following day.

“They kept banging and banging on the door and there was cop cars there continuously,” she said. She said residents in the area had been concerned about the man, as he hadn’t been seen for some time. But the house has looked lived in for a long time – it was decorated for Halloween and a Christmas wreath hangs on the front door. The grass was also mowed.

Neighbours said the man who lived in the home had had a heart attack over the past year but had come back home after being in the hospital, but they were unsure of his health.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, neighbours said there were at least five police cars at the residence.

The RCMP has said they expect to be on the scene for days. They have been going to door to door interviewing neighbours, asking when the last time they saw the man who lived inside the home.
