AMHERST – A 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and charged with shoplifting following an alleged incident at a pharmacy on Robert Angus Drive on Saturday.

Both were remanded in custody and later released on a recognizance order. They will return to provincial court on Dec. 16.

Amherst Police responded to 18 complaints over the weekend.

On Friday night, police went to a Church Street convenience store after receiving reports of female attempting to shoplift items. The 21-year-old was located by police, but no charges were laid. She was removed form the store.

Officers went to an East Pleasant Street residence after owners called about a possible intruder near the property. Police did a check of the area around the property, but did not locate anyone.

A noise complaint was reported at a Smith Street apartment. The apartment’s residents turned the music down upon police request.

Police attended a suspicious vehicle complaint at the Town Square Mall. The vehicle was checked by police and the person was found to be there for a valid reason.

A suspicious person was removed from a convenience store on Church Street. The female was also barred from entering the business in the future.

Officer went to a Prince Arthur Street restaurant to remove a male who is presently on the bar suspension list. The man had left the business before police arrived.

On Saturday, police were called to a motor vehicle collision on South Albion Street. One of the vehicles had backed out onto the street and struck another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle backing up was issued a ticket for unsafe backing.

A theft from a motel room was reported late Saturday. A quantity of alcohol and a wallet were reported taken. Police are continuing to investigate.

On Sunday, police received reports of a break and enter at a Palmer Street residence. A laptop and other items were taken and police are continuing to investigate.

A black Honda Civic was reported to be speeding around the Agnew Street area. Patrols were made of the area, but the vehicle was not located.
