Swift Current Museum Curator Lloyd Begley takes a close look at the Swift Current Centennial calendar which was officially released this past week.
Just in time for the Christmas season, the Swift Current Centennial Calendars for 2014 are now on sale. Representing the City’s history over the past 10 decades, the calendars are great keepsakes that contain over 100 stories and images from Swift Current’s colourful history.
Created in conjunction with a design team from the Art Gallery of Swift Current and images and stories gleaned from the Swift Current Museum’s vast archives, Museum Curator Lloyd Begley says it was difficult to decide just what should represent the City’s last 10 decades.
“We have so many great pieces that could have been included,” says Begley. “But there was only so much space available so we needed to really focus on those people and significant events that we felt have most impacted the City in bringing it to the place it is today. Some of the events are large and some are small, but each has played an integral role.”
Centennial Committee Communications Chair Elden Moberg says he believes people will find great interest in the stories that the calendar showcases.
“They’re a great contribution to our City’s Centennial Celebration,” says Moberg. “Whether you’re a person who believes they know a lot about the City’s history, or you’re a newcomer to the community that knows very little, there’s going to be items of interest for all, and they make a great gift for everyone with a strong passion for the history of our community.”
Calendars are on sale at a cost of $10 each and are available at the Swift Current Museum located across from the Wheatland Mall and from City Hall in downtown Swift Current. Shoppers will also be able to find the calendars at the Swift Current Mall throughout the Christmas shopping season as well as at various community trade shows throughout the year.
