Three companies have been shortlisted to participate in the next stage of the competitive selection process to build the new 225 bed long-term care facility in Swift Current.

It was announced on Wednesday that Integrated Team Solutions, Plenary Group, plus Willow Healthcare Partners have been invited to move forward to the Request for Proposal stage. A total of five groups submitted packages during the Request for Qualifications by the Cypress Regional Health Authority.

"The three that have been shortlisted, there is a lot of confidence in all three of those companies," Cypress Health Region Chief Executive Officer Beth Vachon said following Wednesday's Cypress Regional Health Authority meeting. "Again just lots of confidence moving forward that we've got good, solid proponents that we're going to be working with throughout the selection phase for the RFP (Request for Proposal). So we're just very excited about that and have lots of confidence in who applied."

As this is the first Cypress Health Region project built via a P3 process, Vachon explained that the companies will now begin work on designing the project in order to create the home-like atmosphere envisioned during a Production Preparation Process by Health Region employees back in August.

"Each of the proponent groups will start to actually create designs of this building, based on the input specifications. So all of the things that we said need to be in this project, they'll now start to create their vision of how they would address all of those things that we put in," Vachon said.

The Cypress Health Region will have monthly opportunities to meet with each of the three shortlisted companies to discuss their plans. In March, all three companies will make a project presentation in hopes of landing the project.

"The whole process goes through quite a rigorous scoring and criteria to determine which is the proponent group that meets all of our criteria and who will be awarded the contract to build."

Construction on the new long-term care facility is scheduled to begin this coming summer with the project targeted to be completed by spring 2016. The project will be built adjacent to the Cypress Regional Hospital.

“We are impressed by the number, experience, and qualifications of the teams that expressed an interest in the project and what this says about the market’s interest in doing business in Saskatchewan,” Minister responsible for SaskBuilds Don McMorris stated in a press release. “We believe that this process will lead to some interesting and bold innovations in design, which will be a considerable win for the community. Moving forward with a Request for Proposal is the next important step in the delivery of a new long-term care facility for the community of Swift Current.”
