The Princess of Acadia has run aground off of the ferry terminal in Digby.
Digby Courier newspaper reporter Jonathan Riley is on the scene and says the ferry had almost arrived at the terminal, but then began to drift from the terminal.
There are 63 passengers on board plus crew.
Don Cormier of Bay Ferries says what they know is that the Princess of Acadia did lose power.
"She is secure, she has no punctures," Cormier says. There is no issue with the vessel taking on water.
He said in a 1:10 p.m. interview that power has been restored to the vessel and the passengers are all safe onboard.
Divers are on their way to the scene to inspect the situation. The props and rudders of the vessel will be inspected by divers before trying to get the vessel to the terminal dock. Cormier says passengers will be taken off of the ferry once it can be brought back to the dock.
Witnesses at the scene said they heard the ferry hitting bottom.
More to come.
