Dorchester inmate dies at Moncton hospital

John Arthur O'Brien had been serving 37-year sentence

DORCHESTER, N.B. – The Correctional Service of Canada is reviewing the death of an inmate from the Dorchester Penitentiary.

John Arthur O’Brien, 53, died Oct. 31 at a hospital in Moncton.

At the time of his death, O’Brien had been serving a sentence of 37 years and nine months for sex-related offences. His sentence had commenced on May 29, 1987.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
