Mount Allison welcomes Shelley Ambrose and Douglas Knight

To present “The Business of Culture”

SACKVILLE, N.B. – On Monday, Nov. 4, Mount Allison University will welcome Shelley Ambrose, co-publisher of the Toronto-based magazine The Walrus (thewalrus.ca) and Douglas Knight, president of St. Joseph Media to campus.

Armbrose and Knight will give a joint presentation entitled The Business of Culture, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Owens Art Gallery. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The event will see the speakers engage in a dialogue about their experiences in the ‘business of culture’ and will include a Q&A with members of the audience.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shelley Ambrose and Douglas Knight to campus,” saidMount Allison Centre for Canadian Studies director and English professor Dr. Christl Verduyn. “Their presentation will cover many disciplines and provide students across campus, and community members, the chance to hear first-hand experiences of working in the arts and culture ‘business’ in Canada.”

The Walrus magazine was launched in 2003 and is a national interest magazine about Canada and its place in the world. St. Joseph Media publishes several well-known magazines including Quill and Quire, Toronto Life, and Fashion Magazine.

The event is sponsored by Mount Allison University’s Centre for Canadian Studies, the Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies, and departments of drama, English, Fine Arts, and modern languages and literatures.

Students from all these departments have been involved in the event preparation, including researching featured publications and preparing relevant questions for the Q&A portion. Mount Allison students will also serve as moderators at the event.
